I should have paid attention to the negative reviews of this book. Pay attention to them because they are all true. This is the most convoluted method of food storage I've ever heard of. This is not all the ingredients in one jar for dinner as the title suggests but ingredients in 2, or 3 jars PLUS other items from your freezer/fridge (sheesh!). There are only 30 recipes in the book and they don't even sound very good. It is mostly soup or casseroles and many of these have both rice and elbow macaroni in them which seems weird (one or the other but both???) Her chicken noodle soup recipe doesn't have "noodles" but rather (you guessed it) elbow macaroni and rice in it! There is only one recipe out of 30 that I might try. I have many food storage/pantry cookbooks and this is the WORST.This amateurish attempt at a cookbook is NOT quick, NOT easy, and ridiculously over-priced. The positive reviews must have been written by the friends and family of the author. I hope you take this warning to heart and don't waste $15 bucks like I did. There is a blog on the internet that has (for free!) some great recipes for dry canning freeze dried ingredients and has ALL of those ingredients contained in one mason jar for a meal. Google Chef Tess Bakeresse blog and look at her 52 jar method. If you want a one jar meal that is shelf stable for 5-7 years then Chef Tess is the resource for you.

Dinner Is In The Jar Quick and Easy Dinner Mixes in Mason Jars or Mylar Bags bw edition by Kathy Clark Cookbooks Food Wine eBooks Reviews
One thing I remember my dear old Grandmother always telling me is "cook once - eat twice". Our family has always tried to make enough food at one time that we can eat two meals and spend more time together and less time in the kitchen. The only problem with Grandma's theory is my refrigerator was always packed with leftovers and I never had enough tupperware to store them. This book is full of great ways to prepare several meals at one time, store them in jars or mylar bags and when you are ready for a delicious dinner simply spend a few minutes finishing you meal. One of our family favorites is her vegetable and beef soup. You are not eating an unhealthy can of soup or prepared, unhealthy, processed food. I have six of these family meals prepared and sitting in my pantry right now. All I have to do at this point is empty the jar in a pot of water. Add on the beef and tomatoes, turn on the stove for a half hour and dinner is served. The author, Kathy Clark even included some pages of labels I can print myself and attach to my own " Dinner in a Jar."
Waste of money.... Should have placed more attention on reviews. This is not an easy crack open the bag and add water in order to have a delicious meal concept. Its Bogus because additional ingredients are needed ! Plus there is no clear concise structure of instruction to explain the recipe and process of building the meal in a bag or jar. Finally additional ingredients are required once the meal is built,... So whats the point to selling this as efficient method of having ready to go easy storage meals ?
Ok, I have a mixed review. Now, first the pro's. For those looking to use all their purchased long term food storage, that includes the vegetable based meats, and all the canned sour cream, buttermilk, etc, it's great. Another pro, it comes with label pages you can print from your printer, to label your jars, with instructions which I find awesome. I don't have a lot of the longer term products. So the cons I have some powered products, but I also thought I'd be able to use it to prep meals in advance for now, with what I have so I can use them in the crock. Unless I purchase all the canned storage stuff, I can't really use the book. I will make due with making the few recipes I can, and if I add more long term powered product, then be able to make other recipes. It also isn't that large. So read the information. It's doesnt have a huge recipe list.
This book will give you recipes as well as pages to photo copy to paste on the jars. These recipes are not only for food preservation they also taste better than things like hamburger helper. My family will no longer let me fix or buy hamburger helpers they say mine is better. And you can adjust the recipes to suit various diets such as lower sodium or gluten free.
Expected more for a $15 paperback. 30 recipes total. As for the recipes themselves, the cover says it is for mixes in Mason Jars and Mylar Bags. I expect a Mylar Bagged recipe to be complete (less maybe 1 ingredient, like water). I expected more disaster appropriate mixes ... with more freeze-dried ingredients and fewer canned or fresh add-ins. I also question the actual implementation of the recipes (with or without add-ins). I have never successfully added parmesan cheese to a hot liquid that it didn't turn into a gummy ball. As for a book with gift jar recipes, I have several nice spiral bound hard back books that came at a much lower price, with much more in them. So, it falls short any way I have found to look at it. I am amazed at the reviews that show this as a great purchase ...
I've had this book for a few years and am getting my recipes together to create my long term storage cook book and I can tell you not a single recipe from this book will be there. A waste of time and money. We tried several recipes and besides being difficult to pack as there are usually several jars per recipe and attach the correct tags with convoluted preparation methods (which usually fall off in my pantry as I'm not destroying a jar with a sticker) they weren't all that good. If I added up the time it took to make the jar and make the meal I might as well have made a fresh meal. No time saved at all.
Basically the jars are noodles, rice or beans with spices. You add the meat, canned vegetables, water during preparation.
For instance, the chicken noodle soup recipe needs two quart jars and a pint of chicken. Doesn't save much space in my pantry or help when I can't locate the second jar because the tag has fallen off or the jars got shuffled and aren't right next to each other anymore.
